"Ganma dai 3 gou: Uchuu daisakusen (THE GREEN SLIME)"

This is one of the silliest Japanese horror movies ever made. This is basicly The Blob meets Alien. During an average day on the space center Space Central, an asteriod known as Flora is found to be heading tword Earth. Astronauts Vince Elliot and Jack Rankin are sent up to nuke that darn thing. They find it to be infested with a gross looking slime like substance that can only be described as looking like sewage. Dr. Halvorsen tries to collect some of the substance but Rankin smashes it. It gets onto a guy's spacesuit. The asteriod is blown up and Earth is saved. Sci-Fi movies like this usually would END right now. But this is only about twenty minutes into the film!! The astronauts stop at orbiting satellite GAMMA 3 to get lunch and decontaminate. Elliot and Rankin were once friends but have become arch enemies because of how Elliot sacrificed ten men to save one and also because of their love for Lisa (a doctor they both love). While in the decontamination chamber, the bit of slime grows into a ridiculous looking, one eyed, tentacled alien who goes around killing various people via electrocution. When Rankin and Elliot shoot it with lasers, it's green blood splatters on the floor. Dr. Halvorsen collects samples of it's blood for research purposes. He finds out the creatures can spawn new creatures from it's own blood and that it feeds on electricity! Next the thing attacks Lisa's infirmary. The creature begins to multiply it's self. Soon there are thousands of creatures on the satellite. Elliot devises a plan he hopes will work, he puts everyone in quarantine and cuts off the power from the whole satellite. Then he has the monsters chase a lightcar. Dr. Halvorsen is trapped in an airlock. Against Rankin's warning, Elliot raises the first airlock panel. Dr. Halvorsen is found to be dead and the slime monsters escape. The attack the lightcar and cause an explosion that burns out some of the satellite. Many of the monsters are burned to death. However, the rest are feeding on the sun's power. Rankin decides to destroy GAMMA 3. Elliot and him get into a huge fight over it. Rankin wins. However, when all the spaceships are ready to leave, it is found out that the monsters are blocking the exit. Elliot and four other men go up and blast the creatures. When all the spaceships have left, Space Central can't destroy the ship via remote control because the power has dropped so low. So Rankin and Elliot go back into the room where slime monsters have taken over to get to the control panel. Rankin manages to do so, but Elliot is killed. Successful mission!!! Now how did that sound!! This is so bizarrely weird. There's a small bit of suspense in the film, but most of it's just silly stuff. This was made in Japan in English with a Japanese staff and American stars. You can tell this because the lighting is cheesy, the miniatures are VERY Japanese, and the monsters are silly men in suits. Believe me when I say this, this movie is not for everyone. This was the pilot episode on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I have only seen the 89 minute American version in English, I would like to see the 77 minute Japanese version that apparently dubbed in Japanese.
