Though there are not as many gory scenes when compared to Parts I & II, of the Eko Eko Azarak series, I think that the theme of this film is much more serious. This plot is based on the H. P. Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror". It is known that one of the Witleys traveled from Salem to Dunwich, but another Witley went to Japan. He took the Japanese family name of Etori and he founded Saint Salem High School--an all-girl high school. He also studied black magic to create a Homunculus. He was killed in a fire, but he managed to create some soul-less Homunculi. Many years later, one of the Homunculi desires a soul for herself. To accomplish this, she must gather seven girls (including Kuroi Misa, a heroine of this series) to sacrifice for her occult ritual. The theme about the creature without a soul is not only occult but also existentialistic. For example, probably the reason why recent young people commit cruel crimes is that they feel they have lost their souls. Of course, this film also has themes about modern adolescence problem, but this film is full of occult and mystic matters. It works well!
