It is a kind of serial psycho killer movie. The victims are murdered in the same way which their throat had been cut and marked with bloody cross. Ordinarily, we must regard the murderer as only one. But each cases have these own murderes, and they haven't the motive of a crime clearly. Actually they are mesmerized before they commited their crime. The person who exercised a mesmeric power over them is an amnesia young man named Mamiya Kunihiko. But Mr. Kurosawa (director/writer) didn't explain why Mamiya did it. Mamiya's character is very mysterious and beyond our comprehension. I am certain that he isn't ordinary maniac. Someone said that Mr. Kurosawa may insist that everyone's real character is evil. But I don't think so. I would take note of Mamiya's mesmerism way. Mamiya asks another, "Who are you? Please tell me about yourself.". He repeats this question many a time until people will lose their ego. His mesmerism way is like mind control of self-deveropment seminars or the cult religions basically. People who is under mind control feel like happy because they set free from his stress or his self-reproach, and it is the meaning of 'cure', I think.
