It means 'Dish-house'.
Aoyama Harima a samurai killed Okiku housemaid because her broke his dish by mistake. Harima deserted her body into a well. After then, Harima's family heard the voice that Okiku took count of dishes from a well...
It is a true story. Okamoto Kidou's play "Banchou Sarayashiki" is based on it.
